Selection Process for Post Office Recruitment 2018

The Selection Process for various vacancies in Post Office comprises of Written Test and Skill test. Earlier, there are Interviews also, but with the abolishment of Interviews for JR. Level Posts, Recruitment process comprises of mostly Written Exams (Objective Type) only.

1) Postal Assistants / Sorting Assistant: The hiring process for these posts is conducted by SSC on the behalf of Post Department. The exam is conducted in the name of SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam).

This Exam is conducted once a year by SSC and popularity of this exam is such that, over 60 lakh candidates apply for this Exam. If, you are willing to appear in the next CHSL Exam, then you have to apply for SSC CHSL 2018 Exam, for which the Notification is expected on 5th August 2018

The Selection process of CHSL Exam comprises of Written Test (Objective Paper of 200 marks) and followed by Descriptive Paper of 100 marks. The Final Merit comprises of marks obtained in Both Objective exams, as well as Descriptive Paper. Here is the detailed Syllabus of SSC CHSL Exam.

2) Inspector of Posts : It is Group B post and Recruitment for this post is conducted by SSC through CGL Exams. If, you are willing to apply for Inspector of Posts, then you should apply for SSC CGL 2019 Exam, for which the Notification is expected on March 2018. 

To apply for this post, you have to mark your preference while filling the CGL 2018 Application form. 

The selection process of this post comprises of Tier-1 Exam ( Prelims) of 200 marks and Tier-2 Exam (Mains) of 400 marks and followed by Tier-3, which is Descriptive Paper. The Final merit is based on the marks obtained in all three Tiers.

3) Post Man / Mail Guard / MTS posts: These are the posts with Basic Qualification as Matric. Recruitment for these posts is conducted by respective Head Offices of the States.

The Selection process for the Recruitment of Postman / Mailguard and MTS comprises of only Aptitude test only. Those who qualify the aptitude test as per the cut-off marks, with respect to Merit list will be selected.

4) Scale-II & III Officers in IPPB : With Indian post payments bank, department of posts have made their entry in the banking stream. IPPB is given the status of Public Sector Bank in Jan 2017 and it is expected that there will be bumper hiring for IPPB in the upcoming year, as the department has plans for opening IPPB branches in all the Districts of India.

For instance, the Bank had already notified vacancies for Officer Level posts for which the recruitment is going on.

Post Office Recruitment Syllabus and Exam Pattern

Just like there is the difference in Eligibility criteria for various posts in Postal Department and same is the case with Syllabus. We have different Syllabi for various posts.

(I) For Postal / Sorting Assistant: As this, the exam is conducted by SSC through CHSL Exam, therefore you have studied the CHSL Syllabus. Here is the Pattern of CHSL Exam

1) Tier-1 : Tier-1 Exam comprises of an Objective test comprising of 200 marks (100 Questions) with Time Duration of 75 minutes

  • General Awareness : 50 Marks (25 Questions)
  • General Intelligence: 50 Marks (25 Questions)
  • English : 50 Marks (25 Questions)
  • Quantitative Aptitude: 50 Marks (25 Questions)

2) Tier-2 (Descriptive Paper): Those, who qualify the Tier-1 will have to appear in the Descriptive Paper, that have Questions on Essay Writing / Letter Writing.

(II) Inspector of Posts: Again, Recruitment for this post is done by SSC through CGL Exam and for that you need SSC CGL Syllabus

Pattern of this Exam comprises of 

1) Tier-1: Objective test of 200 Marks
2) Tier-2: Objective test of 400 marks
3) Descriptive Paper of 100 marks

(III) Postman / MTS / Mailguard: This exam is conducted by respective head offices of the states and Scheme of this exam, comprises of Aptitude test of 100 marks having Duration of 2 hours.

  • Mathematics: 25 Marks (25 Questions)
  • English: 25 Marks (25 Questions)
