How many vacancies will be announced in 2018?


If we go by the media reports of May 2017 (Hindustan Times), then there are at least 4000 vacancies to be filled up in the Punjab Police Department. It is not yet clear, out of these 4000 vacancies, how many are for Constable and Sub -Inspector Posts.

 The Directions regarding the filling of these 4000 posts in Punjab Police is given by the Chief Minister Captian Amrinder Singh Ji.

Chairing a meeting of Home and Police Department Officials, Singh also directed to ensure, the annual hiring of 2000 Police personnel to fill the vacancies created by the retirement of Police staff every year.

However, the exact No. of vacancies will be known only when the Official Notification is announced. So, to know the exact No. of vacancies in the Police Department, you have to wait for some more time.



When Punjab Police Recruitment 2018 will be announced?

Well, there is Fixed Calendar, as such that details the Dates of Upcoming Punjab Police Recruitment. Even 6 months have passed since the Punjab CM has given the Directions for releasing the posts. It is understandable, that before releasing the posts, there is a lot of Paperwork, including District wise collection of vacancies,  constituting the Police Recruitment Board, getting approvals etc.

Who can apply for Punjab Police Recruitment 2018?


Applicants willing to apply for various Jobs in Punjab Police for the post of Constables and Sub-Inspectors should meet the below-mentioned eligibility conditions

1) Post: Constables

Age Limit: Applicants willing to apply for Constable posts in Punjab Police, should have their Age between 18 to 28 years. The Cut off Date for Determining the Age criteria is 1st Jan 2018.

Educational Qualifications: Applicants must have passed the 12th Class from any recognized Board Or University in India. Along with this, the applicant should have passed Punjabi as a Subject in Matriculation.


In case of Ex-Serviceman candidates, the minimum Qualification is only Matriculation.

Note: Applicants must have the required Qualification, on or before the Date of Advertisement of these posts.


2) Post: Sub-Inspector

Age Limit: Applicant should be aged between 18 years and the maximum age should not exceed 28 years. The cutoff  Date for Determining the Age criteria is 1st Jan 2016.

Education Qualification: Applicant willing to apply for the post of Sub-Inspector, should have completed Graduation in any discipline from a recognized Indian University. Apart from this, the applicant should have passed the 10th Class with Punjabi as a Subject (Elective Or Compulsory).


Physical Standards: Apart from Education Qualifications, applicants are also required to full fill the height requirements


i) For Males, height should be 5 feet and 7 inches
ii) For Females, height should be 5 feet and 3 inches.


Selection Process


Punjab Police does the hiring of staff through Transparent Recruitment Process only ie there is no scope for any unfair means, the undue advantage to anyone.

DOPE Test: All those applicants before appearing for PMT, shall have to undergo a Dope test (Drug Addiction test)  under the supervision of concerned Officials of Health Department. DOPE test is mandatory for both Constable as well as SI posts.

Here is the Selection Process for Constable and Sub-Inspector posts in Punjab Police.

1) Constables: Selection Process for the Recruitment of Constables in Punjab Police comprises of Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Physical Screening Test and Interview (Personality Test).

i) Physical Measurement Test: In the PMT, applicants are to be screened for Height.  Required height to apply for Constable posts is


  • Males: 5'7"
  • Females: 5'3"
ii) Physical Screening Test: Only those candidates who pass the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), will be called for a Physical Screening test, that comprises of a list of  Physical Activities.


iii) Personality Test: The Final step in the hiring process comprises of Personality test. Only those candidates who have passed the PMT and PST, will be called for the Interview.


Selection Process for Sub-Inspectors in Punjab Police 


The Selection process for the Recruitment of Sub-Inspectors in Punjab Police comprises of 

1) Physical Tests ( Drug Addiction test, Physical Screening test and Physical Measurement test)
2) Written test of 100 Marks
3) Interview cum Personality test ( 15 Marks)


1) Physical test: Physical test comprises of a series of Physical Examinations, determining the General well being of candidates

Before taking part in the selection process, candidates are checked medically for Drug Addiction test. Those clearing this medical test, are to be allowed for further stages of Examination

i) Physical Screening test: It comprises of a series of tests given as below

  • 1600 meters race to be completed on 6 minutes and 30 seconds
  • Long Jump 3.8 meters (3 Chances)
  • High Jump (1.15 meters) (3 Chances)

ii) Physical Measurement Test: Only those candidates who qualify the PST will be called for Physical Measurement Test (PMT), in which candidates are screened for Height

iii) Written test: Those candidates who qualify the PST and PMT, will have to appear in the Written test of 100 Marks. Written Exam comprises of Objective Type Questions. The Syllabus for Written test will be updated soon after the announcement of Official Recruitment Notification

iv) Interview: The Final stage in the Recruitment process comprises of Interview of 25 Marks only. Candidates will be called for the Interview on the basis of their performance in the Written test.

The Final Merit comprises of Marks obtained in the Written test and Interviews taken together.
